Recognized as one of the most popular theaters in the country, the Old Log Theater has entertained over six million patrons since opening its doors in 1940. Don Stolz, the heart and soul of the theater itself, has worked at the Old Log Theater seven days a week for the past 70 years. Inside Stolz’s theatrical autobiography is a thorough account of a joint life journey with the unique, cherished, Midwestern take on the stage arts, the Old Log Theater.

What's Being Said

“No man in the history of American Theater has achieved more than Don Stolz. I’m not exaggerating. And, because of the changes in our industry over the last 60 years, his achievements will never be matched in the future. . . . Don’s life will be an inspiration to any young person aspiring to a career in the Theater and a reminder to the rest of the readers as to what can be achieved by determination, dedication, and a generosity of spirit that has touched all of us who have had the delight of working with him. Here’s to the next 70 years at the Old Log—OK, I’ll settle for 50!”
—Ray Coony, playwright, producer, director, and actor

“For those of us who consider the Old Log an old friend, this is a wonderful trip down memory lane with the stage perfectly set by Don Stolz. I’ve long admired Don’s unique success in keeping this gem alive for 70 years, and his marvelous stories illustrate his tremendous determination and commitment.”
—Harvey Mackay, author of the New York Times #1 bestseller, Swim With the Sharks Without Being Eaten Alive

“With the flair you would expect from a true theater impresario, Don Stolz has captured the drama, comedy, and adventure of 70 years as a genius entrepreneur and director, working with the greats (and not-so-greats, myself included). His life has indeed been a wonderful show, and in his book he mounts the production again for us to enjoy.”
—Marilyn Carlson Nelson, Chairman, CARLSON, and an Old Log teen player
